The Plastic and Cosmetic Laser Surgical Centre – Procedure: Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing is used to smooth the face and its fine wrinkles using a carbon dioxide laser device. This device helps with skin tightening, minimizing wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, and softening scars and pigmented areas.
Am I a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing?
Overexposure to the sun, alcohol use and smoking are known to accelerate the development of the signs of aging. Other imperfections, such as moles and scars may also develop over time to mar the surface of the skin. Laser skin resurfacing is an effective skin treatment for individuals with lines, wrinkles, uneven pigmentation or superficial facial scarring, such as acne scarring, that does not respond to gentler treatments.
How does the procedure work?
Prior to laser skin treatment, a numbing cream may be applied to reduce discomfort. Working in targeted areas, the laser emits bursts of light at a specific wavelength. Water in the damaged collagen of the skin preferentially absorbs the light emitted, ablating (evaporating) very fine layers of unwanted skin.
After laser skin resurfacing, new cells grow while skin heals. Wrinkles and unwanted textures gradually disappear or diminish, leaving you with a smooth and even complexion.

What are the side effects of laser skin resurfacing?
Because laser resurfacing is not invasive, recovery times are short. Some common side effects include redness and sensitivity, which only last very temporarily.
